The Year 6 students at St. Peters Primary have been busy this term working on a special project that combines faith, creativity, inspiration, and Australian history. As part of their preparation for Confirmation next term, the Year 6 students have been learning about the special qualities that others possess and how they can make a positive impact in their world. In line with this, they have written their own picture story books based on inspirational Australians who have made a difference in their own lives and the lives of others.
On Wednesday, 5th April, the Year 6 students eagerly shared their published picture story books with their Prep buddies, their Prep Buddy parents, and their own parents. The event was a heartwarming opportunity for the Prep students and their parents to come together and meet their Year 6 buddies and their parents for the first time this year.
The Year 6 students worked hard on their picture story books, which were beautifully illustrated and written. Each book featured an inspirational Australian figure, from historical figures to present-day role models, who have made a positive impact on society or have had a significant influence on the lives of others. The students chose individuals who have exemplified special qualities such as kindness, resilience, courage, empathy, and determination.
During the sharing session, the Year 6 students presented their books to their Prep buddies and parents, providing a brief context for each story and sharing why they found their chosen Australian figure inspiring. The Prep students listened attentively, their eyes wide with curiosity and admiration, as they learned about these remarkable individuals who have made a difference in the world.
As a special treat, the Year 6 students also prepared cookies for everyone to enjoy after the storytelling session. The cookies were a gesture of gratitude from the Year 6 students to their Prep buddies and parents for their presence and support.
